|
The New Athens Police Department is headed by Chief of Police Larry A. Kirk. The department has three full time officers, one School Resource Officer, and five part-time officers. The New Athens Police Department also sponsors an Explorer Post. The Explorer Post has eight active members.
The School Resource Officer is on duty at the school Monday-Thursday, as well as during many school events. He is specially trained to respond to juvenile problems and his salary is supported in part by the school district.
There is an officer on active patrol
24-hours a day. Each full-time officer has
their own patrol car that they take home with them. This allows for a speedier response time in
case of an emergency. The New Athens
Police Department
has a mutual aid agreement with neighboring communities, which allows for additional
police resources. |
