Water Department |

|
The
Village of New Athens purchases treated water from the Kaskaskia Water
District through a contractual agreement.
The Water District withdraws surface water from the Kaskaskia River
and provides treatment at its plant located in New Athens. This treated water is then pumped to the
facilities operated by the New Athens Water Department. The Village of New Athens Water Department
provides for the storage and distribution of all potable water within the
Village limits. Potable water outside
the corporate boundaries is available in a limited area. Village
owned storage facilities consists of a 100,000 gallon underground concrete
storage tank and a 150,000 gallon elevated single pedestal steel storage
tank. These storage facilities provide
for usage for approximately 36 hours of normal demand. The Village has almost 300,000 gallons per
day in excess capacity available for industrial clients and future growth. Billing Information On or near the first day of each month, a bill will
be delivered by first class mail, to all customers of the Department, for
those services used during the preceding month. This bill will be due on
receipt and may be paid by the 15th of the month following delivery of
service without penalty. This bill
will become overdue on the 16th of the month following delivery of services,
at which time a 10% penalty will be added to any outstanding balance. Any customer with an outstanding balance on
the 21st of the month following delivery of services, will be sent a “FINAL
NOTICE PRIOR TO DISCONNECT”, by first class mail, to the address where the
service is connected, indicating the last day to pay the bill prior to
terminating services. Any customer
with an outstanding balance on the 28th of the month following deliver of
services, will be terminated without further notice. Any customer who has had their utility
service terminated for non-payment, will be subject to re-connecting fees. The amount
due for water usage is determined from metered readings of actual water used
during the period. Residential in-town water tap-in fees are $1,250.00 for a new tap and service
line. A material charge of $1.00 per foot will be charged from the tap location to the meter
location in addition the tap-in fee.
This fee will provide the property with a ¾” metered service from the
city owned water main to the property line.
The extension from the meter to the house is the responsibility of the property owner. Out-of-town
tap-in fees are higher. Commercial and industrial
water connections are determined on an individual basis. To apply for a water service or to obtain additional information,
please stop by the Village Hall, 905 Spotsylvania Street or call 618-475-2144
during normal business hours. To View the Consumer
